Vale Hans Mayer
It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of long time CIGRE member Mr. Hans Mayer.
Hans was involved in CIGRE all his working life. Initially in Germany when he started out in his career and then later when he moved to Australia. Hans was very active in our Australian Panels and remained involved in the B1 panel until recently. Hans was a keen attendee at the biennial Paris Session and must be close to holding the record for the most attendances - 25 sessions over 50 years when we last checked with him!
Hans also presented at several conferences including a paper at the 2006 CIGRE Cables workshop in Sydney, and was a member of WG B1.52 (that eventually produced TB 446) – Advanced Design of Metal Laminated Coverings: Recommendation for Tests, Guide to Use, Operational Feed Back.
Hans was a true gentleman and very well respected for his experience and knowledge and continued to be available to advise and mentor our younger and less experienced members.
Hans received a CIGRE Distinguished member award in 2018 that recognised his dedication and commitment over many years across a raft of CIGRE activities both in Australia and overseas.
He will be sorely missed by all of us who knew and worked with him, and our thoughts and condolences are with his family.
Hans's family have advised that due to the Melbourne COVID-19 restrictions funeral numbers are restricted, however friends and associates of Hans are welcome to view the ceremony online.
