Aussie receives global recognition
At the 2014 Paris CIGRE Session, Phil Southwell (Pictured below) of Western Australia received the distinguished title of honorary member – only one of five Australians ever to do so.
Honorary membership is rare and awarded to members who have proven participation in CIGRE technical activities in a leadership role of CIGRE, and for members whose service of CIGRE has been judged exceptional.
Phil was recognised by CIGRE president Klaus Fröhlich for his many years of service and leadership to both the Australian National Council as well as the global CIGRE network. Phil said he was surprised and felt honoured to receive this prestigious award.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the people in CIGRE and look forward to continuing to engage with experts from around the world as we address the challenge of sustainably developing power systems that meet our future needs”
Other Australian CIGRE members to have recieved this honour in past years are :
1996 - Philip W Dulhunty
2000 - Graham F. Vincent
2004 - David G. Croft
2008 - Peter Tyree
