January 2023 - Special Cairns Symposium Edition

Dear Reader,

I trust you had an enjoyable Christmas and Festive Season with your friends and family and welcome to 2023 !

2023 is a significant year for CIGRE Australia as it is our 70th Year in Australia. We are putting together activities and plan on hosting a gala anniversary dinner toward the middle of the year.  More information will be distributed as plans and events are finalised.

This year also sees us hosting the CIGRE international Symposium between 4-7 September of this this year.

There has been significant progress toward the Cairns Symposium and as the SUPER EARLY BIRD rates close on 31 January we thought it opportune to devote this special edition of ITL to the Symposium to ensure that as many people as possible are aware of the event and are able to consider registering prior to the closure of the Super Early Bird Rate.

What is the Cairns CIGRE Symposium ?

The Cairns Symposium will be a meeting of technically minded energy professionals from around the globe who will discuss issues related to the theme of the Symposium -

"The End to End electricity System: transition, development, operation and integration".

The CIGRE Symposium will focus on the integrated power system and the transformation into the power system of the future.  It looks to identify what can be learned from experience and current developments in the power system and the changes that are necessary to move towards a sustainable power system.

These themes are particularly relevant as the world moves to transition the electricity industry to a lower carbon future.  The transition is affecting all aspects of the power system from the end customer load through transmission and distribution networks to the smallest and largest generators.  Solutions will require new technologies, complemented by innovative ideas to optimise load and generation balance.  The timing of this global Symposium is therefore very opportune and will allow attendees to discuss how various countries are tackling these issues from both technical and economic perspectives.

The four-day international event will involve eleven of CIGRE’s sixteen Study Committees, A3, B1, B3, B5, C1, C2, C4, C5, C6, D1, D2 and include tutorials and workshops. There will therefore be many opportunities to engage with experts involved in these technical challenges. We are anticipating in excess of 500 international and local delegates.

We will also have a large exhibition space and several included and optional events at which delegates can further discuss issues and grow their network of technical expert contacts.

This Symposium will provide the opportunity for regional delegates to experience a taste of what CIGRE offers at the Biennial Paris Session without having to leave the region.

The Program

Paper submissions have closed and we have  311 papers accepted for presentation.  (Click HERE to download the current paper topics) In addition to the papers there are several topic focused Tutorials and workshops on offer.

Our Australian SEAPAC ( South East Asia Protection Automation & Control) and CIDER ( Conference on the Integration of Distributed Energy Systems) will also be held as part of the Symposium with the one entry giving delegates access to all three events.
