e-News for power industry leaders

Issue 8 - October 2016

Hello

We are freshly returned from the CIGRE biennial event in Paris and it is hard to believe we only have 60 days remaining in 2016!

It has certainly been a hectic year to date and are now preparing for our Annual Members Meeting (incorporating the AGM) in November and our SEAPAC 17 conference in March 2017.

This edition of ITL is an information packed edition covering a raft of topics, from the Paris Session, young engineer activities to events and even free membership for 2016!

I particularly draw your attention to the information on our SEAPAC 17 conference as the call for abstracts closes soon – at the end of the month.  SEAPAC17 is in its 6th edition  and has become well regarded as a practical conference to discuss and present issues in Automation, Protection and Control.   If you would like to present a paper,  you will need to act quickly as abstract submissions are currently closing on 31st October.

Similarly, if you would like to take advantage of our special new membership offer you should act quickly to maximise the value of the offer.

I trust you will find some or all of the articles of interest and as always, if you have any comments or need more detail, please feel free to contact us in the office – EMAIL or phone (07) 3310 8838

Best Regards

Terry Killen

Large scale power outages

Recent events in South Australia have led to the initiation of a review of the National Electricity Market both in terms of maintaining system security and ensuring that adequate measures are put in place to deal with the growing installation of intermittent generation. CIGRE Global working groups have considered a number of major power outages around the world that have had major customer impacts. They consider the issues that need to be addressed in managing power interruption events and the potential for investment to aid in preventing future incidents.

CIGRE 2017 Events

As we have done now for several years, CIGRE aims to present practical conferences of interest and relevance to the industry. In March 2017 we are pleased to announce that in conjunction with our B5 Panel, we will again be presenting SEAPAC. This will be the 6th edition of SEAPAC and it has become regarded as the place to present and discuss issues in the protection, automation and controls area.
